 Songs from 2025 I loved.... 

(and one from 2024 I thought was criminally underrated)

Every year is a good year in music. Some resonate more with us than others for all sorts of reasons.

I used to get all my favourite songs from the radio.
Now, I get a lot of them from my kids (35 yr old son, 26 yr old daughter and 21 yr old son).

When I DO listen to the radio now, whether it’s CKUA, CBC, or whatever’s in the wind, it’s a rare track that stops me in my tracks. But just last week on Q (CBC), there was a quick segment and that’s where I heard the Mavis Staples cover of It’s a Sad Beautiful World, and Villain by Annahstasia.  Mavis’ whole life is breathed into the words in the chorus, and whatever space you’re hearing that song in is made better by it. Nigerian-American Annahstasia has a voice and style so distinct that I genuinely wanted to pull over so I could devote my full attention to it. 

Vilain was my introduction to her, but the whole album, “Tether,” is worth your attention if you enjoy her voice as much as I did.

So, these 2025 songs (and The Architect by Kacey Musgraves from 2024) were among the songs I had on “repeat.” I hope you enjoy them all as I do!
