This Week’s Memory Road Trip

Here is a spotlight on the music from the land down under courtesy of Bill Hayes....

"I have always been fascinated by Australia. If I have a chance I would love to visit. To me there’s a Wild West feel to it, a kind of romantic destination. I once asked an Australian artist if they had something similar to our CanCon radio regulations but the answer was no. Pity because, like Canada, they have a really good music scene.  This playlist kicks off with a song from one of my favourite artists. Icehouse is really Iva Davies and the song is a lovely tribute to Australia. There are several artists here that really haven’t had much success in North America. James Reyne, Richard Clapton, Skyhooks, Goanna, and Ian Moss are all very talented but rarely heard here. The Mark Seymour tune Westgate is about a famous bridge collapse. His brother Nick was in Crowded House and interestingly Mark spent some time living near Toronto. He was also a member of Hunters and Collectors, another band represented here. A couple of other quick notes: Skyhooks Bondage on the Boulevard is pretty weird lyrically but I love the tune and Blue Bay Blues and Solid Rock are two of my most played tracks over the years. Like the rest of the playlist, I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!"
