Career:
My journey in radio began in Kapuskasing, Ontario, at CKAP, igniting a passion that would take me across the country. I subsequently worked at CJCD in Yellowknife, CJXX in Grande Prairie, CHEC in Lethbridge, CJCY in Medicine Hat, CFQC in Saskatoon, CHFM in Calgary, CKGM in Montreal, and ultimately KIK FM in Calgary, where I spent nearly a decade from September 1989 to July 1999. My time at KIK stands out as my favourite period in a fulfilling 23-year career in radio.
In 1999, I transitioned to become a full-time voice actor, a career path that has brought me incredible opportunities. I’ve worked on commercials for diverse clients around the globe, including Harley Davidson, Peoples Jewellers, and Trivago. Recently, I have been the featured voice on commercials for Export Development Canada, spotlighting the federal government’s initiatives to support Canadian exporters during these challenging times.

Family Life:
For 27 wonderful years, I’ve shared my life with my partner, Heather MacKay. Together, we are proud parents to two children: our daughter Jae, 26, who is currently in her final year of law school in Saskatoon, and Reed, who is set to embark on his journey to become an English teacher as he starts at the University of Calgary this term. I also have a 35-year-old son, Gil Allen-Boucher, from my first marriage. He lives in Kelowna with his wife, Kendal. I am immensely proud of each of them and the paths they are carving out in their lives.
Hobbies/personal pursuits or passions:
I am the proud founder of a men’s book club called Liquors and Letters, which has flourished for over 21 years. Each month, we delve into a new book paired with a different bottle of whisky. Our latest read, "Dominion," an engaging history of the Canadian Pacific Railway, comes highly recommended. We recently enjoyed a local whisky, Roper’s Hold from True Wild Distilling in SE Calgary, which I can also endorse with enthusiasm!
In addition to my literary pursuits, I have a deep passion for cycling, perhaps even more than I did as a carefree 15-year-old when helmets were a rarity. As a co-captain of a Community Club known as One Aim, I focus on preparing riders each year for the Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer, previously known as the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Since the ride's inception, our club has proudly raised over $2 million for this vital cause.
One of my favorite memories is a recent ride to Highwood Pass on August 23rd, where I captured a selfie alongside my fellow cyclists at the summit. We tackled an impressive 111 kilometers with a steep elevation gain of 1,700 meters—it was certainly a challenge, but incredibly rewarding! (There's a pic of this on this site's Home page)
First music I remember buying:
Little River Band – Sleeper Catcher, or Bob Seger’s Stranger in town – from Circle Of Sound in the Model City Mall. I’m trying to forget ever buying Crazy Horses by The Osmonds, but since that was 6 years earlier, it might actually be the first thing I bought.
First concert:
Styx, opener April Wine in Sudbury on a school sports trip in, I think, 1976.
Most recent artist discovery:
My kids help me discover so much music. From my son, The Bleachers, from my daughter, Waxahatchee via a song called Right Back to It.
Most recent concert:
Ha! The Arkells at the Coke stage at Stampede. Before that, a wee band called U2 at Sphere in Vegas, which also stands as possibly the most memorable concert, EXCEPT for Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Guy Clarke and Joe Ely at Knox United years ago (and any Lyle Lovett show since).
Favourite lyric:
This would likely change based on the day I’m asked, or what’s going on in my life, but one of the best, most succinct lines lifted from the playlist is “… Goodbye is too good a word, babe, so I’ll just say ‘Fare Thee Well’.”

Wes Erickson Eirich is a veteran in the radio and music industries with over 30 years of experience. In the wizarding world, he leans more towards Pinball than Potter, with a touch of Oz and Cheez mixed in. Wes's journey to becoming a Music Wizard began at the age of 19 when he got his first job in radio. He became the Music Director for every station he worked with, in a variety of music formats (Top 40 CHR, Album Oriented Rock, Adult Contemporary, Classic Rock & Contemporary Christian) culminating in senior management positions at 2 legendary Calgary radio stations, CJAY-FM and KIK-FM. He then went on to manage and direct Canada's #1 Christian music station, Shine-FM.
Wes's accolades include being named the Canadian Radio Personality of the Year in '86. He is also the creative mind behind two unique Internet music streaming platforms, CrAzYHoRsE and RADIOYYC.
When he's not wizarding music, Wes enjoys running, working out, playing hockey and indulging in craft beer (okay....any beer!) Since retiring, he now has even more time to dedicate to his lifelong passion—music.
